Poetry and Your Photography
I chose this image because nature is found everywhere even in a public place like a school. This poem talks about nature being everywhere which this image shows.
I would hope they realize nature is everywhere.
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC MAGAZINE COVER REVIEW
I like this cover because it’s an astronaut that seems to be fixing a rocket outside in space which is interesting to me. I also like art from the 60’s too.
I think this one is interesting because it shows culture and I’m interested in many cultures.
This one is cool to me too since it looks different from all the other covers which makes it seem special or important.
PORTRAIT ILLUSTRATION
ARTICLE READ AND WRITE
This article basically explains what silhouettes basically are and how to create one. A good tip they give is to not have the foreground filled with clutter when taking the picture. The sky is a good way to get a silhouette since it’s empty and free of distractions.

CULTURAL PHOTOGRAPHY: READ AND RESPOND
This article explains what is “cultural photography” and not only that but just defining yourself in general. “Cultural photography” doesn’t exist the Author states that as far as their research goes they aren’t able to find anything that falls under the category of cultural photography. Sure there are some photographers who take photos of tribes and show off their culture. But people forget that their is culture everywhere it doesn’t have to be about some tribe it can be found within a city.
The Author explains how the photography they do is hard to explain to anyone. As it doesn’t easily fall under a label. This can also apply to people too. Trying to summarize an entire genre of photography or a person under just one label doesn’t work. This is ironic when people spend their entire lives figuring out who we are.
The author says the golden rule for their photography is experience first and photos after. They talk about the importance’s of immersing yourself in the culture even for years to capture the experience in a photograph. You need to become part of the culture to capture the culture.

READ AND WRITE: PHOTOJOURNALISM
They captured this event by going along with the people rioting the capitol. It almost felt as you were there with these series of pictures and you could see how they progressively got deeper into the capitol building. This will be remembered as a very odd day in U.S history as the whole situation is just very bizarre.

CREATE A WORK IN THE STYLE OF SANDY SKOGLUND
“Ditching for fishing”
This kind of of inspired me to make the image above. It’s a bit different from what Skoglund does but I wanted to make something a little different rather than just straight up copying her style. Originally I wanted to make the school a fishbowl but ended up making it an image of people fishing at shore. I like this art style it’s something unique that isn’t really done often. It’s interesting to see the process from sculping the sculptures to taking the photo I enjoyed learning about it. I think Skoglund’s style is very interesting.

MOTION BLUR
- Make sure your camera is completely still and frame your shot, so your subject is well positioned
- When there are people there is movement which is a great place to get a motion blur shot
- Another great place to get movement is the coast by the water’s edge
- Bikes create lots of motion blur weather that be you riding the bike or taking a picture of someone riding it.
- Cars also do the same
HDR PHOTOGRAPHY
I like the way this photo looks. I believe the vibrant looks good. A thing to make this better would be to take a picture of my own clouds. This is because it would be more original. It would be a picture that’s more true.
I like the way the camera has the fish eye look. However, I’m not sure if other people wouldn’t like that. I should’ve maybe change it but doing this gives it a unique look. The vibrant may be a little harsh though.
TED TALK: IMPOSSIBLE PHOTOGRAPHY
This ted talk is about surreal imagery. Erik the guy in the video talks about how he creates surreal images. He shows his work and how he plans out and makes them. They require a lot of planning to make one photo.
His fish photo took a few months to make. He took a picture of the fish and the water and the cave and combined all to make that photo. He combines these pictures by getting the same lighting and angle. By doing this he is able to combine his photos into one piece.
They tend to come out realistic the way he does it. This is because he explains it’s an illusion. Our brain makes it look real based on perspective. Overall I thought this ted talk was cool and I would want to make photos like this.
FILL FLASH OUTSIDE
It is used to lighten up the shadows in the background of a photo. This can be especially useful on gloomy days. Fill light can be used whenever the background is brighter than the subject.

Real Estate Photographer
I find it interesting because you would just take pictures of property which would be easy. I do meet the qualifications. I would just need to show up with a camera.

MY FAVORITE TEACHER
Mrs. Cauchon’s class is very fun for me and for everyone else. The thing I like about the class is that we have the freedom to shoot what we want. We are able to do our own thing and make it work in the class. The assignments we do are always cool and fun. It’s also interesting when we do assignments that aren’t exactly photo related like screen printing.
This allows us to switch it up a little but we still do keep it related to photography by taking a picture of it. The fact that we all have our own blog is cool so we can come back to see our work in the future. Mrs. Cauchon is a nice teacher and I know I’m not the only one who thinks that.

CANON LENS EXPERIENCE REVIEW
I really enjoyed reading through these posts. The two that I read were of John Tlumacki & Donna Dotan. John Tlumacki was interesting to me since he photographed many famous pictures one of those being the famous Boston marathon photos. These photos are iconic and historical which will probably be looked back on in the future. It’s crazy to me too how he didn’t have much fear on another bomb potentially going off, but he stayed focus and photographed what he needed to. I also liked what he said about always having his camera ready. It’s true because as a photographer the best photos that you find usually come by chance rather than being seeked out.
He is a veteran photographer and he’s been working in the Boston area for many many years now which is cool to me. I also think it’s cool how Mrs. Cauchon used to know him. You probably meet many interesting people while you’re pursing an interest that you have. I find it cool too that John was quick to switch to digital. I feel for most people when new technology comes out or new anything comes it they would rather stay with what they know rather than try something new. So, I found it interesting that he made the switch over to digital as fast as he did.
The post I read about Donna Dotan was interesting to me Aswell. I liked the fact that she was born in Israel as I personally have an interest in foreign countries. She then later came to NYC which shows that it really is the center of the world as it has people from everywhere and all types of different backgrounds making the city unique and interesting. She used her job at a hotel to photograph the expensive rooms. This led her to her first gig. What I like about this is photography is based on opportunity she used her job at a hotel to land her first photo gig. Many people carry their cameras on the 24/7 no matter what they’re doing to get the perfect opportunity and from what I know I feel that photography is all about opportunity in different ways.
Dotan is known to scout locations the day before a shoot. I find this interesting that people will go out of their way to scout locations and write them down, so they know what to shoot the following day. It’s more of an organized way of shooting rather than traditional photography. Many of her photos are from NYC. This is like John as he photographs many photos in Boston which are two big and widely known American cities. All in all, I believed they were both interesting and it’s cool to see how many different types of photography there are.
Social and Political Issues in Art
I feel the way I do since so many people choose to take their own lives every year and all of those deaths are preventable. My argument is against suicide. The flip side of my issue might be some people not caring enough for people who commit suicide. I really can’t see their point of view since every life is important. The reason I chose this stand is because suicide can be overlooked at times when it’s very important to be aware about it. My art is not intended to offend anyone and should not. I do believe the artist does have the right to offend though. I do believe my art gets my point across by including a shocking fact at the beginning.
$10,000 Photography Shopping Spree
Canon EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR Camera (Body Only) – $2,699
I would obviously need a camera if I’m going to be a photographer so I this camera seemed like a good choice since it was a best seller.
SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO UHS-I SDXC Memory Card – $34
If I’m out shooting, I would need a lot of storage for photos so I don’t run out mid shoot. There for a 128MB card would do the job.
Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Canon EF – $749
I would want a lens for a camera and this would be my choice since it’s cheaper than others and seems to work well.
Impact Heavy-Duty Air-Cushioned Light Stand (Black, 9.5′) – $55
I want a stand to carry my camera and for 55 dollars this seems to get the job done.
Impact VC-500WLN 3-500Ws Digital Monolight with Transmitter Kit – $700
This seems to have most/everything I would need to get decent lighting when I’m inside or in a studio so I would want this if I was a professional photographer
ASUS 15.6″ Republic of Gamers Strix G15 Series Gaming Laptop (Eclipse Gray, 2021) – $1100
When I’m on the go and need to edit my photos and use a computer for whatever other purpose this would definitely work. It isn’t a work laptop it is a gaming laptop but the specs are better than a work laptop that would be about the same price.
Nomatic McKinnon 35L Camera Backpack – $400
This seems like a nice backpack to carry all my camera equipment that I would be carrying as well as the laptop I would use for editing.
DJI Air 2S Fly More Combo Drone with Smart Controller – $1750
I still had like 4k dollars left so might Aswell spend it on a drone to get some cool aerial shots.
Peak Design Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod – $600
A tripod is useful for on the go.

PHOTO FOUNDATION
Aperture controls what light enters your camera. Shutter speed is when the camera is closed when light is incoming. This is how long the light is permitted to enter the camera. The shutter speed changes the look of the image by exaggerating the motion. ISO speed is similar to shutter speed in controlling the amount of light that reaches the camera. However, lower ISO speed is more desirable rather than a higher like for shutter speed. Camera modes are the way ISO, shutter speed, and the aperture is chosen.
